I like the name “Highgarden” from Game of Thrones, but looking online, I can’t find that they’ve actually showed what the romantic castle of Margaery and Olenna Tyrell looks like. It’s described this way: The inner rings of Highgarden are a beautiful complex of towers, courtyards, colonnades and statuary, and greenery is just as prominent inside the walls as in the fields outside; ivy, grapevines and climbing roses can be seen snaking around the buildings, and gardens and arbors are filled with flowers. Water features are also common inside the walls, with pools, fountains and even man-made waterfalls visible throughout the complex.

Hmm. Sounds a bit like the glorious Villa d’Este in Italy.

Add some flowers and presto, it’s Highgarden. Are you listening, Benioff and Weiss?

By comparison, my little oasis of green is a Lowgarden, but still very pleasant in high summer.

daisies

The humble daisies are my favorites, so reliable and disease resistant. Midwestern Edelweiss!

Our lilies were impressive this year.

And what’s a garden without a little Moss?
