Anything Goes, Aubrey and Winnie, cats, Cole Porter, friendship, Joel Grey, Shelter Cats, Sutton Foster
Aubrey and Winnie came to us on Valentine’s Day, a pair of scared little felines from the shelter who were too shy to attract adoptive families. The shelter put them together, and they’ve been best friends ever since! This is my tribute to their friendship.
If you’re ever in a jam, here I am.
If you ever need a pal, I’m your gal.
If you’re ever so happy you land in jail, I’m your bail.
It’s friendship, friendship, just a perfect blendship.
When other friendships are soon forgot, ours will still be hot.
Diddle dolly diddle dolly, dig dig dig.
If you’re ever down a well, ring my bell.
If you’re ever up a tree, phone to me.
If you ever lose your teeth when you’re out to dine, borrow mine.
It’s friendship, friendship, just a perfect blendship.
When other friendships go up in smoke, ours will still be oke!
Loddle oddle loddle oddle, chuck chuck chaa.
If they ever black your eyes, put me wise.
If they ever cook your goose, turn me loose.
And if they ever put a bullet through your brain, I’ll complain.
It’s friendship, friendship, just a perfect blendship.
When other friendships have been forgit, ours will still be it!
Loddle oddy loddle oddy, hip hap hap.
If you ever lose your mind, I’ll be kind.
And if you ever lose your shirt, I’ll be hurt.
If you’re ever in a mill and get sawed in half, I won’t laugh.
It’s friendship, friendship, just a perfect blendship.
When other friendships are are up the crick, ours will still be slick.
Diddle dolly diddle dolly, dig dig dig, hep hep hep!
Good evening friends.
The lyrics are from the song “Friendship” by the immortal Cole Porter. The song was introduced in the 1962 revival of his show Anything Goes, where the friends are Moonface Martin and Reno Sweeney. Here’s a clip of rehearsal for the 2011 Broadway revival with Sutton Foster and Joel Grey.
Aw, I can see you’re winning them over now… 🙂
Working on it! Winnie is still afraid of the Long-Suffering Husband. I fear she had some bad experiences with men in her past… poor dolly.
Or maybe she’s figured out that they are, by and large, utterly pointless. Except when it comes to putting up shelves 😉
Yes, they have their uses 😉 The LSH is very good at dispensing food, which is always a plus, to Winnie’s way of thinking.
A winning strategy… maybe he could toss her a juicy prawn every now and again 😉
Nothing like a Man with a Big, Juicy Prawn!
LOL!
🙂
Hooray! Now if they could only be friends with the 3 other cats in the house…
Well done, you, for adopting the shy girls! You did good!
Thanks! They will more than repay us. In fact they already have 😉
Precious! 🙂
Many thanks!
So glad to see they are settling in! They are beautiful – and I’m sure they are giving you a lot of joy.
Thanks–they are the sweetest.
Good heavens, Linnet, they are purely edible.
I don’t know about you, but I’m one of those women who in my old age plan to live in a houseful of cats, running around wearing nothing but a gardening hat and hoping to scare off all little kids within a good mile of the house.
Bliss.
Beat ya to it 😉
I cannot say I am surprised. But I bet you do it with great panache!
