In my little corner of the world, all the wine merchants are rushing to unload their Prosecco. They think nobody wants to drink sparkling wine in the Fall. Wrong! We scored some of this delicious bubbly at nearly half price, $10. It’s nicely dry, with plenty of vivacious pear-like fruit.
One should always have a sparkling wine in the fridge, whether it’s Cava, Prosecco or overpriced Champagne. If something wonderful happens, you’ll want to celebrate. And if you’re in dire need of something wonderful, it’s there and ready to pop. Instant summer!
Curious, in this part of the world those wines are more related with winter and Christmas. Although they are drunk all year long to celebrate something. 🙂
BTW yesterday I went out to dinner with my Italian family and I had a terrible Shiraz… 😦 And the most despicable “tagliatelle ai funghi porcini” 😦 Completely tasteless… 😦 And the meat… if I had with my a leather string I could transform it in a caligae. Fortunately I had still fresh in my mind the memories of an extraordinary dinner in our favourite restaurant in Spain.
Here we have sparkling wine for the winter holiday and for New Year’s, but usually it is Champagne. People think of Prosecco as a summer drink. I think it’s good any time.
Tasteless porcini? Abominable!!
More than that. As the dinner was offered by my brother-in-law we didn’t say anything to the manager but I can assure you that it was an insult towards Italian cuisine
Mmmm. I ate so many good meals while I was there 🙂
A fridge without a chilled down fizzy wine is a sad fridge indeed. I am with you here LM, and who doesn’t love a bargain?
Here’s to a happy fridge!
