Greek Sayings of the Kings, Generals, Philosophers and Certain Others from Plutarch and Diogenes Laertius, with Latin Translation. Published by Henry Stephanus in 1568. I love all the Latin marginalia in this book, and have been known to fantasize that the initials E. R. next to the printer’s device belong to Elizabeth Regina!
The “manicule” or pointing hand was used to mark important spots in the book. It gave rise to a typographical symbol that we still sometimes use today.
